The California Fair Plan is the insurer of last resort for California homeowners who have lost their homeowner’s insurance. It has its very own website (!!): Home page - The California FAIR Plan.
Many local homeowners have reported finding reasonably priced coverage through the CA Fair Plan. The one exception has been in cases with large recent claims, where policies have been very expensive.
If, like many of us, you need to resort to the CA Fair Plan, be aware that it only covers some risks, and that, in order to be fully covered as you would be with a regular homeowner’s insurance policy, you need an additional insurance called Differences in Conditions (DIC). The CDI publishes a list of current providers of DIC.
