There have been emergency preparedness neighborhood groups in Berkeley for a many years. For instance, the Mid-Creston Emergency Preparedness Group has been around for over 40 years!
In 2009, many of Berkeley groups formed a network of disaster preparedness as a 501c(3) organization, the Berkeley Disaster Preparedness Neighborhood Network. The Network gathers people with outstanding experience and expertise, and many years of practice within many of these longstanding emergency groups. They are a great resource, a mine of valuable information, and a way to get ready for wildfire and other types of emergencies.
