Every summer and fall, small fires ignite in Tilden Park. Thanks to our outstanding fire department, they are typically quickly controlled and do little damage. In 2024, two wildfires in Tilden Park made it into the local news. There may have been more.

In Diablo wind conditions, in the presence of some unlucky combination of circumstances, either of them could have turned into a damaging, quickly expanding fire in the Berkeley Hills. We are lucky to have a great fire department in Berkeley.
