Over the last weekend in June, Firebreakers, held its first vegetation removal event. More than 25% of the households put a brush pile on the curb. Collectively, approximately 72 cubic yards of chipped vegetation was removed; 7.82 tons! Plus, the City’s recycling service picked up 65 debris bags. Thank you to everyone who participated. With the City’s support hauling and chipping the material, this was an inexpensive way to reduce the fuel-load in our area. Some brush piles were so big, we gave out awards! Here are some “before” and “after” images and a few snaps of impressive brush piles.
We are planning another vegetation removal event on the weekend of August 23 and 24. Mark your calendars! Get excited! The City will pick up our vegetation debris for FREE. Yes, for FREE.
Our Committee will be organizing neighbors to bring debris down to the curb in advance. Please contact @ruthe if you would like to get help clearing debris from your yard in advance or on June 28 - 29. We will be gathering volunteers and workers.
We are especially motivated to arrange for work on contiguous properties and plan to help by hiring contractors to cut vegetation so volunteers and workers can haul it to the street. With the City disposing of the vegetation, the cost savings will be more than 50% of hiring a contractor on your own.
You can place piles of debris on your curb up to 25 feet by 4 feet by 4 feet. Hard vegetation you CAN put in your pile includes:
- Shrubs
- Brush
- Tree limbs
- Wood
- Bushes
- Bamboo goes in a separate pile
Debris you CANNOT put in your pile includes some vegetation:
-
Metal objects such as nails or fencing
-
Poison oak
-
Blackberry brambles
-
Regular yard waste
-
Leaves
-
Lawn clippings
-
Bamboo roots
-
Roots covered with dirt, rocks, or gravel
-
Limbs and firewood larger than 8” in diameter
-
We will have debris bags available in the neighborhood for leaves, lawn clippings and vines.
Let’s make our neighborhood fire safe!
