For the first time since 2020, Berkeley called an Extreme Fire Weather Alert for Fire Zones 2 and 3.
Extreme Fire Weather, a Berkeley-specific alert, indicates extreme conditions during Red Flag days where wildfire can quickly become catastrophic. The conditions typically involve high Diablo winds, high temperatures and low humidity.
Berkeley Fire Department advises residents of Fire Zones 2 and 3 to evacuate, before a fire has been spotted, for the night of Oct 18, starting before 8pm Friday Oct 18, until after 7:00 AM on Saturday Oct 19.
