Creston Rd organized to have powerlines undergrounded thirty years ago, but at the time, after all our efforts, the city rejected us, saying there were too many other streets in the pipeline for such work. Now all powerlines south of us (Grizzly Peak) and east of us (Park Hills) have been undergrounded, and undergrounding is happening north of us, leaving us the one spot with dangerous power lines. When I’ve talked to fire officials they’ve told me they’ve been urging the city to have powerlines in the hills undergrounded for years and been consistently ignored. We need to talk about PREVENTING fires from power lines, not just hardening our homes after they happen. PG&E has a big grant from the state to underground and streets like ours should be top of the list. The city of Berkely needs to ask for this. We need to get them to act on our behalf if they expect us to all the home hardening they want.

I think all of us in the neighborhood would love to see this happen!
With the million dollar grant the city has, why can’t that money be spent for precisely this?
