# The 2024 Summer Wildfires at Tilden Park

Every summer and fall, small fires ignite in Tilden Park. Thanks to our outstanding fire department, they are typically quickly controlled and do little damage. In 2024, two wildfires in Tilden Park made it into the local news. There may have been more.

**July 1, 2024 Grizzly Peak Fire**

Right by Grizzly Peak Blvd., on both sides of the road, near Centennial and South Park Dr. 2 acres burnt . Ignition: fireworks—[more information](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2024/07/02/berkeley-fire-department/berkeley-oakland-hills-vegetation-fire/).

**Aug 27, 2024 Inspiration Point Fire**

Near Inspiration Point in Tilden Park, right by a popular trail. 3 acres burnt. In Diablo wind conditions, in the presence of some unlucky combination of circumstances, either of them could have turned into a damaging, quickly expanding fire in the Berkeley Hills. We are lucky to have a great fire department in Berkeley.
